It is proper internet etiquette to refrain sending or responding to unsolicitated, spam, messages. Do not spam or follow pop-up and spam links because they can lead to viruses and your computer being hacked.

Spam has been responsible for many high profile hacks. Unwanted email messages are often sent with links to sites that compromise the security of the entire network and organization associated with a person who responds to it.
Reuters has fallen for this trick so many times that their news agency and affiliates have no credibility.
Internet Etiquette
Spam, in terms of security, is an automatically generated email sent to a bulk list of email addresses. Any unsolicited email is spam, but the ones that pose the most risk are automatically generated ones to bulk address lists. Many viruses are sent out via spam. Online scams are often executed through bulk email messages.
Pop-up and pop-under advertising opens a new browser window. Pop-up advertising opens a new browser window on top of your active browser window. Pop-under advertiser opens a new window behind the active browser window. This is particularly nefarious because it does not disrupt your current browsing action and may go unnoticed.
JavaScript program takes control of your computer to open a new browser window. The specific JavaScript program used to open the pop-up window is the threat to your computer because of the programming required to open the window. Other JavaScript programs do not pose the same threat. When it takes control of your computer it can insert malware, scare ware, and viruses.
Hackers use malware, scare ware, and virus's they write into the JavaScript to steal information from your computer, up to and including every keystroke you make. Email spam may include malware, scare ware, and viruses as well. It takes an action on your part to activate these various program.
The best way to avoid spam is to keep your email address private. Sending a lot of email messages to people you don't really know gives your email address away. Forwarding chain letters, accepting them, and participating in multi-level marketing are many ways that users get on email lists. Sharing you email address when companies collect data from you puts you on a list. Proper internet etiquette is to use discretion when sharing your email address in reality or with your friends.
It is proper netiquette to keep your email address confidential. On social networks, do not let users search for you by email address. That way spammers can't figure out your email address and target you for online scams. Do not use your name as an email address to prevent hackers from guessing it.
Delete marketing messages that you do not explicity remember signing up for because hackers target users with fake messages. They often have a user profile to start out with. From the user profile they target user groups to infect and spread their viruses for various reasons from identity theft to mayhem.
Do not click links in unsolicited email or download attachments. Delete all email from unknown sources because it may lead to a virus. Therefore, it is proper netiquette to refrain from using spam as a cheap advertising technique or tactic because it puts computers at risk through its use. The more spam there is the more of security threat it is for everyone.
Netiquette
Unsolicited sales messages are strictly prohibited by the rules of netiquette. Proper internet etiquette prevents sending unsolicited messages of any kind. It is not appropriate to waste a users time with unwanted information.
Everyone could use a little netiquette!
